The Scottish Environment Protection Agency (SEPA) was made aware of an oil pollution incident involving the Carmel Burn at Crosshouse, near Kilmarnock at approximately 4.30pm on Friday 27 August.
SEPA officers worked through the evening to identify the source of the pollution and continued to work into the night to install oil booms to contain the oil. Officers are on site again this morning to continue their investigation. In the interim, local residents are advised to keep animals away from the watercourse.
