Radioactive contamination at Dalgety Bay is a complex technical issue requiring careful but urgent attention and involving a number of public bodies as well as the local community.
SEPA had not expected to comment on the issue until after today’s Dalgety Bay Forum meeting, but we welcome the Defence Infrastructure Organisation’s announcement today of its commitment to dealing with the problem at Dalgety Bay.
We are keen to establish the precise nature of this commitment, given the DIO is in the lead as the primary source of radioactive material in the area, and theirs is the primary responsibility to tackle the resulting environmental and human health hazards. We are happy to work with the DIO to assess any plans or proposals they bring forward.
