Potential flooding from heavy overnight rain

  07 June 2017

Persistent heavy rain overnight has led to some flooding in the North East. Areas of Findhorn, Nairn, Moray and Speyside are the most affected by this and rain is expected to continue until after the morning commute with some impacts on travel.

Flood warnings have been issued across the area. The lower Spey is particularly high, with potential localised flooding in Kingston and Garmouth. SEPA and Moray Council are monitoring the situation across the area.

In areas where the rain has been heaviest we expect to see flooding impacts from smaller watercourses.

Other areas affected are low lying agricultural areas in parts of the Scottish Borders and Tayside.

Keep up to date with the latest flood alerts and warnings on the live flood updates page of the SEPA website. We also encourage people to sign up for free flood messages direct to their phone by calling Floodline on 0345 988 1188 or via our website.

Members of the public can also use the Report–a-Flood tool to inform us of flooding incidents. SEPA will publish these reports online to increase awareness of local flood impacts and help keep communities informed of the areas most affected. Please note that Report-a-Flood is purely for information sharing and cannot be used to report problems, ask questions or report emergencies. Emergency situations should always be reported to the emergency services.
